  5. Covid Relief Efforts

The unprecedented disruptions caused by Covid to lives and livelihoods left many in dire straits.

During the first wave, the abrupt announcement of complete lockdown left daily-wage workers, factory staff and rural small scale industries with no means to fulfil their daily needs. With no end in sight many migrant workers trying to return back to their homes from the cities were challenged for food and basic necessities.

Rising up to the challenge our team and volunteers provided food relief and grocery kits to 1100+ households of migrant workers, transport staff, and daily wage workers in Bengaluru’s slums.

Going beyond the city we also reached out to rural communities to people involved in minor trades and small farmers. With no access to markets and buyers their suffering was immense. Grocery kits provided to 135+ rural households provided them relief for several weeks, enabling them to tide over the crisis.

As govt schools made their first attempts to resume education in the lull following the first wave we reached to children in single-parent families and helped the mothers with support till they found new or regained their earlier jobs.

With the onset of the second wave, the acute shortage of medical support posed new challenges. Hence our effort during this wave was to support allied health workers and hospitals with their needs.

While we hope the worst of the Covid crisis is over we are planning projects to improve healthcare infrastructure and preparedness for any future waves.
