Understanding the Problem
While there exist a large number of public welfare schemes to assist poor people in their health care needs, there are significant gaps in these schemes and also a lack of awareness among the beneficiaries that keep them from availing such benefits.
The Good Health Project was designed to address gaps in public health needs and provide assistance to the most vulnerable patients.
For the Differently Abled
Our first foray into community health came in the form of assisting patients with spinal cord injuries and lower limb deformities by providing them with mobility aids, specialized footwear and supporting treatment wherever possible. This was done in co-ordination with the district health departments in the villages of Nelamangala and Chikkaballapura.
We continue to explore more avenues to reach such assistance to patients in need in remote locations
For New-Borns during Covid Times and Beyond
During the first wave of the Covid pandemic, due to highly challenging circumstances, pregnant mothers from under-privileged families experienced severe stress, received inadequate nutrition and food. Consequently, many new-borns were born before term or with low birth weight or other serious issues.
The only hope for such ne0-nates is through intense NICU treatment and round the clock monitoring by dedicated medical professionals.
In collaboration with KMC, Manipal we have been able to support 32 new-borns to get this treatment, with most leading to recovery, even while a few unfortunate little ones lost the battle.
In the belief that every infant should have a fighting chance at survival we will continue this effort in the future too.
For Children
Taking our efforts with neo-nates further we are trying to support children with treatment support for hematological and oncological conditions. Most of these treatments are often expensive and government schemes only cover a fraction of the treatment cost. Yet with the right treatment many of these children have a good chance of survival and productive life.
With a view to ease the burden of parents who have exhausted every outlet of public health support we have assisted 15+ children so far and continue our efforts for the same.
In Collaboration with Mental Health Experts
Supporting the efforts of eminent psychiatrist Dr P V Bhandary to provide free medical treatment for poor patients with mental health issues we have supported the camps he undertakes in collaboration with Rotary (for the ground logistics) and will continue to support camps in the future too. Each camp benefits around 200+ patients and they have been conducted even during Covid times in order to ensure continuity and avoid potential relapse in these patients.
The Good Health Project continues to explore new avenues to serve the most vulnerable patients and your support to this effort will make a world of difference to their lives.
