The Mobile Resource Wehicle Program (MRVP) on the other hand focuses on taking eye-care in a mobile vehicle to the smallest of villages.
This program was in its fledgling stages and was doing limited work in urban communities. However the real need for such an intervention is in the small villages where camps with large patient strengths are not possible.
Hence to pilot this effort we identified 24 Panchayats in Nelamangala where the vehicle staffed with optometrists, field staff and trainee students are deployed for a day to identify patients in need. Similar to the community camps the patients who need surgery are brought back to the hospital, while those needing spectacles are provided the glasses immediately.
Through this effort we have been able to take eye-care to seniors and poor people to small villages that had little or no access to such services and restored vision to scores of patients.
